Stories From the Nest

welcome

Thanks for stopping by and checking in on our crazy little family.

Jayden Big Geometry Project

Jayden and I have spent many hours over the last two weeks working on his first major school project for his Honors Math class. Earlier this year, Jayden was tested and because of his outstanding scores he was selected to be in an advanced math class. For this project, Jayden was asked to design a presentation to show his knowledge and understanding of the foundations of geometry. He choose to do this by creating a volleyball scene diorama. He has spent a lot of time and energy working on this and I am very proud of him for all of his hard work. Tomorrow he will be presenting it to his class. Good Luck, Jayden!!!

Mom and Kira's Birthday Celebration!!!

Last weekend we celebrated both Kira and my birthdays. We had big plans going into the weekend that were quickly altered due to Kira having a low fever. But, of course, Kira did not let this get her down. We had a great time celebrating! On Saturday we went out for lunch at Noodles/Chipotle.

Then we drove into the city to spend some time at the Garfield Conservatory. It was nice to enjoy all the plants.

Tim and I went out to dinner on Saturday night and did some shopping for my birthday present. I have decided to redecorate the living room as my present. More on this to come in future posts!

The Wolves

Our family sport is hockey. This past weekend after months of saving money in the coin jar we had just enough to take in a game. The kids were super excited and the Wolves played strong up until the last period. They did lose in the end but that is not how the kids remember it. :) The first picture of Lex is kind-of blurry but I love how it captures his excitement. He was truly in awe of all lights, fireworks, and noise. Kira was all about the pop and cotton card. Jayden enjoyed reading the program and learned how to make some of the referee calls.

Boys Night

While the girls were hitting the town, Tim decided to follow suit and make it a boys night. The boys and I went out on the town last week! What is better than SUPERHEROS! Here the two brothers are perusing the comics at Graham Cracker Comics. I’m only hoping it doesn’t inspire more jumping off the couch to utilize their “super powers”. Here they are at Le Chocolate. As you can see from Jayden’s expression, he’s quite excited about his entree. Note: as excited as he was, he was unable to eat the entire thing. Lex, on the other hand, had no problem polishing off his desert.

January Girls Night

Last weekend Kira and I hit up the town for a fun and fabulous girls night. We started at the dollar store to buy some birthday plates and streamers as both Kira and I have a birthday coming up. Next we spent some quality time at Target. Kira got some cute new snow boots and a whole lot of spunky attitude as seen in the picture. Last it was on to the mall, where we rode on the carousel and share two scoops of ice cream with extra sprinkles. We had an absolutely wonderful time and Kira was glowing as drove home. I defiantly need to plan another fun night for her and I next month!

Kira's New Look

After 2 weeks of waiting, Kira's new glasses have finally arrived. So far, she thinks they are cool but she would rather wear them as an accessory to her favorite outfit or clean them with the big bottle of spray they came with versus their actual intended use. The good news is that she is much more careful with them then the 10 or so pairs she went through when she was 18 months old. We did lose them for about 10 minutes this afternoon. We looked everywhere only to discover that Lex had decided they were cool and was walking around wearing them. Other than Tim, Lex is the only person in our family now that doesn't wear glasses and of course he desperately wants a pair of his own.

Updated Family Picture

Don't we look great!!! I took this picture on Christmas Eve this year. I was so impressed with the patience my little ones had while I set up the self timer on my camera and I impressed myself by getting this shot on only the third try! It has been a while since we have taken a picture with all of us in the pic and I am so pleased with how well it turned out.

Sink or Swim

So tonight Jayden and Kira start swimming lessons. I am nervous about the whole thing. Jayden will do awesome! He knows what he is capable of and he took a few classes a couple of years back. Kira, on the other hand, has me nervous. She is determined and independent. Both qualities are great to have, I am just not sure that they will serve her as well when she is in a pool where she can't reach the bottom. She believes that she can swim like the fish even though we have "let" her sink a couple of times. After we drag her up from the bottom of the pool, she looks surprised as to why she didn't swim and assures us that next time it will work. The sooner she learns how to really swim the better! I fear that she will attempt to swim during the lesson when the instructor is not looking. I have high hopes that tonight will go well and that I will feel more confident that she will be a "model" pupil throughout the next 6 weeks.
